New Book

Our book club is in the middle (actually, I'm just at the beginning) of this book,
The Omnivore's Dilemma, by Michael Pollan. The first 40 pages have been very interesting, only about 380 pages to go, yikes! It already has impacted my life, as I've decided to change from using non-dairy creamer (Coffeemate's Vanilla Caramel) to regular 1/2 and 1/2. We'll see what other changes I make (and how long I stick to them) as I get further along in the book. So far, I still eat at McDonald's. Love those french fries!

Why does the book encourage using 1/2 and 1/2 ?
I'm a huge fan of sticking with what's real... none of this sugar free, carb free, fat free stuff, but I've never heard of a book that is written for that purpose. :)

I should have clarified a bit. This book talks about the history of how and why we eat what we eat as Americans. For most other cultures there is/has been a system of eating in place for ages. Since we don't have that history, our food choices are leading our nation down a fairly dangerous path (i.e. obesity, diabetes, heart disease, etc.). The first part of the book talks about how corn has infiltrated just about everything we eat on a daily basis and I just decided to cut out one corn-derived product (although, it is still possible that the 1/2 & 1/2 I'm using is from cows who were fed corn). I've still got a LOT to read, so I'll leave it at that for now.

Do share... what's wrong with corn? I'm really interested in this stuff. We try to eat super healthy over here. I'm NOT a fan of milk (due to what their feeding and shooting into our cows) and our kids do not eat food with high fructose corn syrup and we try our best to stay away from Preservatives and MSG. Its hard, but we do our best. :)
